Melissa on StairsThank you for visiting my portfolio website!

After raising four remarkable and talented kids, I've managed to carve out a studio space in our home with enviable support from my husband and family. What you see here are the results.

I began my practice anew, after a 20-year hiatus, with paintings of my friends' late mothers. I wanted to test my ability to capture a likeness, translate black and white images into colorful, living representations of people who are still deeply loved, even if they've been off this earth a minute or two. Though I began this as a project designed to help me grow skills, I discovered that I loved doing memorial portraits from vintage photos or snap shots.

I have lots of new projects in mind. Such as "Warrior Women" portraits derived from the sort of selfies you might normally delete! Have courage, send them to me instead.  I'll also continue my exercise of painting literary, historic, and music industry figures. It helps me stay centered and focus on developing atrophied skills.

I anticipate by this time next year, I will have new goals to conquer and new ideas to pursue. Please join me here to check in on my progress, share work you find appealing, and order commissions of your loved ones or cherished moments.

Thank you for supporting artists and buying original art!
